OKAY SO I'M THINKING like 17-20 age range, either senior class in high school or a freshman in college. Guys it just took me like six tries to spell senior why is it so late already

Her family situation is something like. FILTHY RICH yet distant parents and Peridot was probably raised more by a nanny/governess figure who was not especially nurturing. Like actually the opposite of that. Her life was pretty controlled as a child without a lot of freedom to be creative, but she was taught well. Like extremely well. Peridot is rad good at mathematics and the sciences. She's inventive and expresses her intelligence by building things! A...lot of them don't work quite the way she wants them to but many are quite good and show a lot of promise.

Her sheltered upbringing has made her pretty eccentric and not super familiar with social cues or cultural conventions. She knows what's expected of her in the society at HER class level but when socializing with normal people her age it's like they're speaking different languages. HOWEVER I'm going less for the "royalty shocked by the common rabble" trope and more the..."weird sheltered nerd yells at clods" trope. That's not a thing but you get the idea.

I'm leaning towards the freshman college student route (but I'm too lazy to go edit the first bullet point ig) to work in some kind of equivalent to Peridot falling in with the Crystal Gems/a crowd that is VERY DIFFERENT from the one she is used to. Her parents send her to some kind of university in Recoille with an uppity reputation and a solid engineering program, but Peridot ends up going to some sort of engineering (or geology har har) club where she meets a group of students from backgrounds very unlike hers who probably got in on scholarship or something. YOU SEE WHERE THIS IS GOING at first they knock heads but eventually Peridot grows to admire this new group of people in her life and becomes their friend, much to the chagrin of her parents. They probably try to take her away at some point but she's like NO WAY JOSE I'M STAYING and gets disowned but whatever, she picks her new friends and she loves them even if they are clods.

THIS IS MORE OR LESS HER BACKGROUND STORY upon starting out in Recoille, she's still in school and still being a nerd with her club friends and has picked up a crummy part-time college job now that her parents pulled out their funding of her. She works in a cool alien-themed pizza restaurant it's totally Pizza Planet.

In class, she likes to show off and be the teacher's pet. Any compliment she can get from a superior is sought after, and she always works extra hard on project and in groups. That said, sometimes her ideas scale too large to actually be accomplished, and she can be VERY PUSHY in a group setting. BETTER PULL YOUR WEIGHT or you'll be hearing from her!

In her spare time, Peridot likes to build gadget and gizmos a-plenty. Some are probably more practical and useful than others, but hey, you learn from your failures, right? One of her current projects is building a set of "limb enhancers" that give her additional reach and strength and maybe...propeller hands...it's proprietary. When she's not building something, she also enjoys binge-watching dramatic television series and forming strong opinions about shipping. And sharing those opinions on the internet. Sorry, internet. She's also probably That Person on Twitter who is posting old memes all the time but she is on her phone and/or tablet and/or laptop a lot.

Her personality arc will be pretty much identical to what it is in the show - she used to be calculating, selfish and cold, but has warmed up considerably as she explores Being Kind and Thinking of Other People's Feelings. She's still pretty socially awkward, but she's doing better! And her general misunderstanding of social cues is kind of charming in its own way. She sort of knows that, too.

LOOKING FOR: I'm pretty set on the idea of Peridot being an only child, BUT she definitely needs friends/teachers/mentors/coworkers/etc???? Fellow students from both back in her private school dates and her new, "liberated" college days. Maybe you're in a engineering/geology/AV/IT club with her. Maybe you come to the pizza restaurant she works at, or maybe you ordered a pizza and she just happened to deliver it! Maybe you stole the seat she likes to sit in at the library. HONESTLY I'm open to pretty much anything here, positive or negative (since she can definitely be a challenge to get along with still). If your character also comes from a wealthy family maybe they could be cousins or something like that.
OPTIONAL ENABLE ME: I'm pretty set on Peridot for my first char tbh but I'm also possibly considering Harry Potter (Harry Potter), Eleven (Stranger Things) and Papyrus (Undertale) for future rounds!

If she's going to be a college student, she and Rachel probably can't be classmates, but I think there's potential in them getting to know each other over a shared interest in SCIENCE!!!

WE CAN DEFINITELY MAKE THAT WORK, I'd expect Peridot would also be involved in a lot of not school-specific science activities. Museums, community science fairs, astronomy parties THAT SORT OF THING so the could meet at something like that!

PENNY absolutely i would! peridot will sure be...bossy...BUT she would definitely appreciate an assistant in SCIENCE, even if she isn't the best at showing that appreciation all the time.

the real question is will penny encourage peridot's hairbrained schemes because really, that's all she needs to become one of peridot's favorite people

Hello, I see you mention possible private school mates and distant filthy rich parents. Half of which I have as similar to Lapis' AU background idea (ie: distant rich parents), so would you be interested in maybe these two dorks having known each other?

OH DEFINITELY, they could definitely be in the same social circles growing up! being dragged to parties with their parents and things like that. peridot probably picked on her when they were younger SORRY LAPIS but gotten better recently at least??

she will call literally everyone a clod, BUT POSSIBLY since yu's the son of important people and peridot is the daughter of important people they could run in similar social circles? talked at uppity social gatherings, charity events, that sort of thing? i'm also 100% sure that peridot would share yu's affinity for cats, if not to such an extremely degree, BUT STILL they could form some kind of weird...cat based friendship and go from there...

THIS IS WHY WE'RE FRIENDS....Bayley can we say that Luke orders pizza from not-pizza-planet and continually just has Peridot deliver it to him/his bar (he lives above his bar so technically it's his food...) and they forge a weird kind of friendship that way?

Alternatively they're both from rich/well-off families and may have rubbed elbows in those circles in the past, too.

we could say they recognize each other from being in similar elite social circles to the point of "hey i recognize you and your name but don't really know you" but they can still be like "HOW DID YOU END UP HERE" when the pizza delivery relationship is made

Stealing the seat the library seems like a thing that Tris would do and have absolutely no qualms about. Peridot doesn't own the seat, it's for everyone. Stop yelling in the library, she's trying to read.

They're in different majors and years so I don't think they'd meet each other in classes, but there must be some way to work in Larx/Arlene trolling Peridot about shipping. Because Percy/Pierre is obviously never going to be endgame, nerd, do you even character arcs??
