JANUARY TDM

TEST DRIVE
JANUARY TEST DRIVE
The city of Recollé. A beautiful city with beautiful people. The place you call home. It's a wonderful home, isn't it? With everything you could possibly ever want right at your fingertips, why would you ever want to leave?

In honor of this glorious city, the residents of Recollé are preparing for its annual Founder's Day celebration…you'll help out, won't you?

I.
Recollé Square is bustling with activity today and several residents are working together to pitch a large tent. Others are working together to decorate the fountain of the founders with flowers and streamers. Children and dogs run through the area and there's song in the air as everyone works together.

Are you one of the people helping with the streamers? Or perhaps you're holding the ropes of the tent taunt so it doesn't blow away? Hey, maybe you're catering the whole event to feed those hard workers! The choices are endless…but you might want to catch those balloons that are starting to float away!

II.
Meanwhile in Chata, business is booming as everyone crowds the parking lot of Freshens trying to fight their way into the store. You really should have thought to buy your groceries much sooner. Everyone knows that Founder's Day is one of the best potluck days and, weather permitting, picnic days. Are you having any luck getting into the store? Is that the last rack of ribs? You better hurry and snag them!

On the flipside, shop owners in Chata are busy setting up food stalls and merchandise tables in preparation of the main event. The smell of sweets and spices fills the air and you can't help but follow your nose to check it out. The vendors are all friendly and happy to give away samples of their goods in the hopes that you'll be back in a few days' time. Or maybe you're one of those vendors hoping to attract customers for Founder's Day. Do you have all of your supplies? Your permits? Is that teenager trying to steal apples from your produce stand? Everything's a little chaotic in the days before Founder's Day.

III.
The work doesn't stop there. Over in Tisse it's party central with flashing lights, sound tests, and a festive atmosphere that says the celebration's already started for several businesses. The line for Expressive is out the door with customers eager for their Founder's Day special. Be careful, you might have to finagle your way through the crowd. Throughout the day you may hear music and mic tests coming from the Atrium as the local schools work together during their dress rehearsal for the Founder's Day Pageant. You might even have an insider's look if you're one of the students in the pageant or one of the stage hands helping with last-minute set design, costume alteration or any of the other countless things that could go wrong.

The employees at the boutiques inside the Towers are bustling as well, swapping their floor displays and handing out flyers and coupons to shoppers to encourage them to come back for their big sales. Maybe you are one of those employees and now you're dealing with some wicked papercuts, or maybe the smell of butter is seeping into your clothing as Flix opens its doors to an early marathon of historical films depicting the life and tales of the city.

Tisse is most certainly the busiest of the districts today, but there's still so much to be done!

IV.
Most important of all, back in Tribunal Terrace residents will find Mayor Mayer out and about today which may seem unusual. The Mayor tends to stay inside City Hall keeping the city running from there, but today he's speaking with someone handling a large truck. People passing by may hear some scurrying from inside the truck, the sound of claws skittering on the metal floor, and…is that clucking? No, wait, now it's the sound of hoofs clomping and the whinny of a horse.

What's going on in there? Maybe you should investigate and ask around. Employees working for the Mayor will only give you a strange look in response, and the Mayor himself is unavailable for commentary…but it can't just be your imagination, can it?

Upon further examination and questioning residents will be told that these are horses for pony rides for the kids on Founder's Day, but that doesn't stop all of the weird noises. What on earth is going on?

BONUS.
Despite the festivities and the light-hearted mood of the city, it's still winter. Like all winters prior, it's chilly enough that you'll need a warm coat outside, but the storm season has passed. Instead, today in all districts there's a light flurry of snow falling, snowflakes gently twirling and landing on your shoulders and in your hair. It's not enough to stop the work, but it may send several people to crowd inside coffee shops for a hot drink or shops to take a break from the cold.

Bet you weren't expecting that influx of business, were you?

And later…much later, in fact, those carrying cell phones or tablets will feel a jolt from the device. A closer look will reveal that a new application has started to install itself on these devices, but you can't seem to open it right away. That's a bit odd, isn't it? It might be wise to check other devices in the city to see if the application's installed itself. Upon further investigation, though, you'll find only a handful of residents have the app installed. The app pops up on any public computer you may use but fades away the moment you log off.

Strange, strange, strange. Once it fully loads on your device, you'll find that the app, Retrospec, appears to be a social media app with the option to friend people, share statuses, pictures, videos and more. Those sections are currently blocked out, however. Take some time to fill out your profile if you'd like; that portion of the application seems to be the only one that can be accessed currently. All other social media (Facebook, Twitter, and regular texting) are accessible, but the app itself stubbornly remains on your own profile page.

Welcome to the [community profile] recolle test drive meme! All characters will be begin in-game AU'd as Recollé residents. You may use any of the above prompts for ideas or make up your own depicting your Recollé AU! Prompts do not have to be set in the districts listed above. You can review our list of locations for what's available. Please note that TDM threads can be used as samples, can be kept as game canon if both parties agree, and can also be used for bonus points for future item regains. (Additionally: we will not be allowing TDM threads to be used for memory regains.) Write as many or few prompts as you want, tag around, and have fun!

As a reminder: as per our app rules, please try not to reference other characters in your threads or in your AUs if that character isn't being applied for! Our favorite example is as follows: if an Elsa from Frozen is being TDM'd, we ask that the player not reference her sister Anna by name unless an Anna is planning to TDM and be part of the same AU. Elsa can reference her younger sister in threads as much as she'd like if she has a sister in her AU, but we ask that names are not specified without having that character TDM'd and without the player's permission. Please also remember that posting to the TDM does not equate a reserve, which open on 1/18.

Mana Aida | Dokidoki! Precure

[personal profile] strongestheart 2017-01-11 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
[OOC: For purposes in this game, Mana's AU name is "Maya Aimoto." Her AU Workshop is over here, for reference!]

I.

Alright, everybody! Put some pep in your step!

[The loud call will come from a girl high up on a ladder, pumping one fist into the air as she's finishing securing a streamer. Honestly, it looks a little dangerous - she's not holding on to anything, but seems to be keeping her balance just fine. In spite of yelling, she seems to have quite a bit of energy behind her.]

The faster we're all finished up here, the faster we can move onto other stuff, right?

[She begins to come down off the ladder and then about halfway down just jumps off it, landing squarely on her feet.

Maya Aimoto is an athletic girl, and clearly showing a lot of enthusiasm. Whether you find that encouraging or a pain in your side, well. That's another matter entirely, isn't it? She flashes a grin and begins to move on to help someone or another with the tents. Among the volunteers, Maya's offered to help encourage her peers into working hard - and what better way to do that than by example?

If anything, she almost seems a little too into the work, almost as if she's trying to prove something- but if you've seen her - and if you go to the local high school you very well have probably heard her calling out to someone at some point or another - you'll note that's kind of a consistent feature.]

III.

[Continuing to overachieve, later on Maya is backstage helping with preparations for the pageant. Acting isn't exactly up her alley - she's steered clear away from the drama club on most occasions, but back here she seems a little more subdued than the energy she would have been displaying helping set up decorations and tents before.

She's not exactly quiet, but there's definitely a difference without the bigger audience at hand. She hums to herself as she works helping those in charge of the pageant organize equipment and costume racks. For the most part she's actually minding her own business, if keeping busy, but if she left any good or bad impressions from all those encouraging messages earlier, perhaps she'll stick out. Or maybe you need some actual help with the pageant proceedings?]

Bonus.

[Eventually, Maya does manage to sneak away. Jacket pulled firmly around her she hunkers down around a building and pulls out her phone. Now she definitely gives off a completely opposite vibe from earlier that day. She's got a decidedly sour look on her face as she looks over her messages, letting out a little, almost bitter sounding laugh.]

Ah, of course you can't make it. Dinner's on me. What else is n--

[She squints at the icon she then notices downloading onto her phone. She tilts her head to one side, shakes the phone (because that'll do anything), and quickly checks her purchase history before coming back to it.]

Oh not now, I do not need some virus on here! The last thing I need is to be begging my Dad for a new one...!

[She may have blurted that out a little too loud. Even being much quieter, Maya is just sort of a ... naturally vocal person.]

[personal profile] rosettareflected 2017-01-11 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Yes, Alicia does know that voice. The display of balance is enough to make her shake her head, but she can't help but admit she probably could stand to work a bit faster. It's a little chilly out here, and the snow is just starting to settle in her hair.]

You're not wrong, but there's also a lot to do. Can I get a hand here?

[Here is one of the tents, which Alicia is presently doing a bad job at securing alone, a little bit of a strained expression crossing her face. Grace, sure. Dexterity, no problem. Raw strength, not so much - there's just enough of a breeze that the tent is starting to visibly slip out of her fingers, rattling slightly. Her eyes widen and she starts to pull it in more firmly, but it doesn't seem to be going so well: that helps her side, but now the others are starting to shift. Why did she agree to this again?]
strongestheart: (064)

[personal profile] strongestheart 2017-01-11 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[It is cold, but Maya's been running around just enough working that it's not bothering her too much, so far. Her eyes raise at the sound of the voice, and dart to the other girl. She taps her chin.]

If that's the case, we should be done even quicker, yeah?

[Maya spots the issue pretty quickly, jogging over to one of the other sides.] I didn't say anyone should be doing this by themselves, though-- [She begins to work on trying to secure another side of it before she peers over in Alicia's direction.]

Uhh...

[She can probably secure her side just fine, but the brunette doesn't seem to be having as good a time with that. She laughs nervously, picturing the tent taking off into the air with the next stiff breeze.] When you said you 'need a hand,' do you want me to handle this side or are you gonna be okay over there?
rosettareflected: ([+L] Uh-oh.)

[personal profile] rosettareflected 2017-01-12 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Alicia very carefully does not pout, or make any kind of sound to convey the same.]

I'll be okay as long as something else keeps it from moving, at least a little - one side'll do that!

[She carefully doesn't comment on the rest, though from the still-strained expression on her face, that might be for lack of available focus. As Maya starts to work on another side of it, Alicia's starts to come back under her control, and without further instruction she starts to get it secured. It's not that she can't, clearly, she just needs to pay attention and not work by herself.]
strongestheart: (030)

[personal profile] strongestheart 2017-01-12 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[Careful as Alicia is, Maya still gives her a curious little look as she continues fastening her side down.]

Ah, well - you've got it, then!

[That curious look continues though, and she squints at the brunette. She manages to keep doing that as she continues her own end of the work, not really catching the fact herself that she's kind of staring at the other girl for a rather long moment.]

Heeeey, you know - you look sort of familiar!
rosettareflected: (Really?)

[personal profile] rosettareflected 2017-01-15 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
[While it's not enough to break her focus - that isn't likely when she's the center of attention on-set as regularly as she is - Alicia does notice Maya's interest, and when she finally gets her side secured, she looks up, the very tips of her ears burning but not showing any other notice.]

I do? Perhaps we've met before, and I've just forgotten?

[personal profile] clear_eyes 2017-01-11 10:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Maya may or may not notice the girl sitting not-so-far away with her nose in her phone. Maybe they've seen each other around school once or twice? Or maybe because Rachel keeps her head down and focuses on her own interests they've just... never taken notice of one another.

But this time, Rachel does take notice and overhear the first part of what Maya said, causing her to frown to herself as the other girl's words trigger a memory inside of her, of her own dad cancelling on her during his last supposed visit. But before she can dwell on it, she hears Maya cut herself off... just as Rachel sees something that doesn't belong on her own home screen.

Wrinkling her nose in confusion, what Rachel does next is kind of spontaneous. She looks up, standing up from the ledge she'd been sitting on, calling out to Maya.]

Excuse me... did some weird app just appear on your phone too?
strongestheart: (090)

[personal profile] strongestheart 2017-01-11 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Maya is practically ready to jump out of her skin. No, she hadn't noticed Rachel nearby at all. No, she can't really recall seeing this girl around before, even if Rachel had seen her. Having thought she was alone, she jumps back a little, looking around suspiciously, before just realizing she... hadn't been paying enough attention.

She lets out sigh, but puffs her cheeks a little at the same time. The suspicious look doesn't fade as she looks down at the app on her phone and then hastily shoves it in her pocket. How did she know that? This girl wasn't spying on what she was doing, was she? That'd be super rude.]

Weird app? [...the first thing she thinks to blurt out.] I mean, that's a bit of a random question, isn't it...? [Canned, fake laughter follows.]
clear_eyes: (calmly explains)

[personal profile] clear_eyes 2017-01-11 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[So they're both complete strangers to each other. Not like that won't result in some horrific irony later, or anything.

In any case, Rachel returns Maya's suspicion and nervous laughter with a dull, flat tone.]

Sorry. I just sitting here when I overheard you. By accident. An app just downloaded itself to my phone and I thought maybe that's what you meant by getting a virus.

[She looked at her screen, frowning.] It says it's called Retrospec, or something.
strongestheart: (032)

[personal profile] strongestheart 2017-01-12 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Maya begins to compose herself, covering herself (either well or poorly, it all depends on your perception) with yet more nervous laughter.

Oh. Oh, okay. So she's not being some creepy stalker. GOOD.

...does this girl seem mad? ... Nah, Maya's sure she's fine.]
Ah. Well. Heh! Just ... didn't see you there.

[Smooth. She coughs into her hand and straightens up, eyes flicking to the other girl's phone for a moment. That... was the name of the thing that had appeared on hers, wasn't it?] Uh, that's super weird, right?
clear_eyes: (neutral)

[personal profile] clear_eyes 2017-01-13 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
[The nervous laughter kind of undersells the "covering" part. Also the coughing into her hand. But Rachel did come out of nowhere, so she's not gonna dwell on it. Her expression changes a little, as she nods.]

It is pretty weird, yes. You didn't buy or agree to anything, right? Maybe it's something the OS is pushing...

[A thought occurs to her for a moment, and a moment later she acts on it. Normally, she doesn't introduce herself so readily, but she doesn't want this girl to keep thinking there's something weird about her. Being guarded doesn't mean being unfriendly, right?]

Oh, my name's Rachel, by the way.

[That sure is a kid being unsafe on that ladder. Alice almost intervenes, but Maya clambers down before she can think of what to say.]

Uh...you're right, but please be careful. No one's going to get anything done if you fall off of something except taking you to the hospital.

[Look someone has to be a Responsible Adult here and it might as well be the woman who barely looks older than Maya.]
strongestheart: (092)

[personal profile] strongestheart 2017-01-11 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Look, Maya doesn't have a problem with Responsible Adults, it's just that hers aren't around much. Not that they're bad parents, just... very busy. Either way, the fact that she doesn't look that much older does not escape her notice, but takes it in stride. For the moment. Unless she gets pushy about it.

She grins and plants her hands on her hips.]

No need to worry, there! I didn't fall, I jumped!

[...probably not the response any rational person would be looking for...]

But seriously, it's fine. It's not like the ground's even that slippery.

[This would be the key time for someone to slip and fall somewhere in the background, but luckily this is not a sitcom.]
onceandfuturemascot: (mildly concerned)

[personal profile] onceandfuturemascot 2017-01-13 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
I know you jumped, or my logic that falling would put you in the hospital would be pretty bad. Just...be careful.

[She's pretty sure no one actually signed any waivers for this and she has no idea what the insurance situation is. You have to think about these things when you're an adult.]

What's your name, by the way? I'm Alice.

Should be. She just gives her a bit of a cheeky grin and a half laugh instead.]

[There. This costume is good as new. Nobody would ever know it had been damaged during a rehearsal. Time to put it back... ah.

It's actually not what's different that Caroline notices first, but what's consistent. Maya's still steadily chugging away, while most of the other people who've been working the whole time are either dragging their feet or already on their second wind. (Caroline herself is doing a pretty good job of pretending not to be exhausted.)

It's not until after she puts the dress away that she realizes she just completed that entire task without Maya giving her any kind of encouragement, grabbing it and putting it away herself, or otherwise interfering. That could be meaningful, or it could not. Either way, it has Caroline curious.]

Eh?

[Oh! Someone called attention to her. Maya had actually been fairly all right at keeping a low profile back here, for once - she was being a busy bee, but keeping herself going with mostly menial tasks.

For her, it's a weird sort of way of winding down from as forward facing as she'd been earlier in the day.]

Oh! Fine, fine! You know, I guess I kind of just got caught up working...!

[Izuku has seen Maya around their school quite frequently, in fact. He's always quietly admired her take charge attitude and encouraging comments; things that he couldn't see himself ever having the guts to do. Not without getting teased even more by their peers.

So he's become good at keeping his head down while all the while silently rooting Maya and her energy on. Her encouraging comments to those working around them serve to pep him up as well as he strings up his own section of streamers.

However, when she takes her athletic dive off of the ladder, it proves a great distraction to the boy. So great a distraction that he begins to lose his balance on the ladder and in a panic to find something to grab onto his hands fly straight past the ladder and onto the streamers...which buckle under his weight, sending him crashing to the ground.

...Maybe he shouldn't be working on anything that requires heights.]

[personal profile] strongestheart 2017-01-15 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
[Oooh. You could hear that crash. Maya saw it, too. Beyond concern, there is an immediate notion in her head of, "No one look at me, I didn't tell him to follow my lead like that!"

But, concern is still there. Though maybe a little high on herself, Maya's not a cruel girl - she doesn't want anyone hurt, for sure. She dashes over to his side, leaning over.]

Normally, she might have a different sort of reaction to an adult suddenly approaching her off the beaten path. But there's lots of people wandering around here.

Even still, she gives him something of a funny look.

She was shouting about it, though...]

...I just had this weird app I never downloaded decide to download!
