He's having a lot of trouble figuring out his place in the world and fighting the idea that what the world wants him to be isn't what he wants, while also struggling because he craves validation from the figures that aren't present in his life/don't see him for who he really is and what he can be, instead of what they want him to be. These struggles manifest themselves in reckless and potentially dangerous ways (let's be honest, if solar surfing were a thing Dante would be on that in a heartbeat!)
