OCTOBER TDM + EVENT PT 2

EVENT + TEST DRIVE
OCTOBER TEST DRIVE - EVENT EDITION
The city of Recollé...

…is a mess. But that’s probably unsurprising to many of you who have been fighting back to cure the creatures of the night. The golden moon hangs high in the sky and casts its eerie glow over the city. Each day, more members of the Retrospec app fall victim to various strains of the monstrous viruses in the air. Though some of you have discovered temporary cures, they aren't working as well as you've hoped.

Even worse, on the evening of the 17th, the moon shifts and wavers in the sky, transitioning from its rich golden color to a deep blood red. The sky remains overcast, never quite dark but the sun refuses to appear.

Most importantly? The infection begins to spread further...better hurry.

I. - OTA

It starts with a rustle. A crinkle. A dry, crackling sort of noise and when you wake up on the morning of the 18th you'll find yourself surrounded by tall, towering cornstalks gently brushing against your window. While plenty of the stalks are healthy several others are dried out and intertwined.

The longer you stay in any sort of shelter the louder the rustling becomes and an increased sense of urgency grows, driving you outside and straight into the heart of a large cornmaze that's taken over the city. The stalks seem endless and stretch high into the sky, the tips seemingly touching the moon and providing very little in the way of direction. For those with the ability to fly, soaring up into the sky will lead to an aerial corn maze that's even harder to navigate. Digging your way under will lead you to mounds of roots, too tough to cut through no matter what you try.

You could use fire if you really wanted, but do keep in mind that dry stalks will ignite very easily and the flame will spread faster than expected. As for cutting the stalks down? When one's cut down, two more grow back. Work quickly and you can make some progress.

Wandering through the maze isn't as hopeless as it seems, at least. Sure, it's incredibly easy to get turned around and lost but as you keep walking you'll find buildings in their appropriate locations to act as landmarks. You might even run into a few friends as you're looking for an exit.

However, friends aren't the only creatures looming among the maze. Large, overgrown crows with beady red eyes caw as they linger above, attempting to peck you at every turn. The birds are prone to swarming in groups and will chase anyone who's out in the open for too long. Venturing further into the maze will cause the birds to grow suspicious though and as you walk away from the outer portions they'll stop following you just as something appears in your line of vision.

Another person? It may even look like someone you know, though they can't see you with their back toward you. As you approach them, the birds may caw a warning but it's too late. The figure turns around and you come across someone else. The same rustling noise as before becomes louder as the scarecrow advances on you, corn husks spilling from its hands to wrap around your limbs as other scarecrows come to join it.

Those who have been on the app for some time will find themselves dragged deep into the maze, disappearing between the stalks. As the scarecrows walk and pull you along, they bind you with their corn husk limbs and your muscles seem to relax against your will. The deeper into the maze you disappear, the less mobility you seem to have. Your clothes soon feel itchy and your hair feels brittle to the touch. A copy of your current outfit appears on the scarecrow that ambushed you as your own clothing fades away into well-worn flannel and patched denim. Hopefully you still have the strength to fight, or you may find yourself alone and abandoned.

Those who are brand new to the app, however, will find that the scarecrows have something different in mind. Rather than dragging you deep into the fields, they begin to march along the paths, gathering straw to stuff into your sleeves and the back of your shirt. Patches of mis-matched fabric are placed on your clothes and you find yourself hoisted six feet in the air, tied up onto a pole and looking out at the endless rows of corn.

Someone has to protect the crops from crows, don't they? Too bad the scarecrows will just leave you hanging.

II. - OTA

You would think that the problems would end there. It's bad enough with scarecrows and birds, but as the moon continues washing the city in a soft red glow the primal instincts of the infection take hold. Those who have been infected in the last few weeks will find that the monster side of your personality begin to take its toll. It becomes harder to fight off the instincts to infect and take control, humanity wearing thin even in the daylight hours.

On the other hand, at least your luck is better than those who aren't on the Retrospec app at all. In the previous days, your fellow citydwellers had hardly noticed that anything was amiss. Seeing truly is believing and while they could see the changes around them it was all in the Halloween spirit. Your physical changes and your abilities are smoke and mirrors, fun and games, and things they never quite took seriously.

Perhaps they should have though. Perhaps if they had, they would have been prepared for the changes brought on by the blood moon. Unlike those on the app, citizens around you will begin to shift and change without any signs of stopping. The monsters in them break through their skin and alter their physique, animal-like instincts immediately shutting down any signs of human life. Sprouting fur, teeth, claws and other tell-tale signs, the monsters around you are the final products of the infection. These are the end game, prime examples of what you can be.

And they want you to join them.

With their sights set on anyone who isn't like them, they'll be relentless in their attacks to try and change whoever they can reach. Vampires will drink blood, werewolves with bite, mummies will bind and merpeople will lure you in with their siren song. There's nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. Everyone is at the risk of becoming infected should you get caught.

But you may be able to trick them into fighting their own kind. Monsters by nature want to control, and certain breeds of monsters will attempt to assert their dominance over one another. By leading them on and luring them out, you may be able to pit them against each other for a clean getaway. Traditional warding methods will have minimal success as well, but it's easy to become overwhelmed.

This sense of control will even reach those of you who have been infected in the last month. You may love your friends and your family, but if they're an opposing monster, tensions rise and tempers fly leading to fights you may regret if you aren't careful.

Don't be afraid to ask for back-up. You have to learn who to trust sometime.

III. - IN GAME CHARACTERS ONLY

The Retrospec mailbox sits proudly along the side of Wiffle-Waffle, completely untouched and surprisingly free of monsters and corn stalks. While several of you have approaches this place recently for assignments to help quell the infection, the mailbox seems to have a different idea today.

Plastered on the wall next to the mailbox is a chart divided into categories, and as you linger to read a small, wrapped bundle will vault itself out of the mailbox and straight into your arms (or, if you're not paying attention, your face.) While the item you have been gifted is randomized, it's easy to locate on this chart. The package begins to glow a soft blue, and in your head you'll hear a small, clear voice.

"Into the woods, it's time to go, I hate to leave, I have to, though. Into the woods, it's time, and so I must begin my journey…"

As you venture through the corn maze city and fight the night, the voice continues to repeat the phrase until you find your way out of the maze and into the line of trees. Untouched by the maze, the woods are dark but the path is clear. Following the wisps of light and the voice guiding you, it becomes hard to avoid stumbling upon a clearing with twelve stone pillars, each partially colored with a ring of light surrounding its base. For each pillar, there's also an emblem shaped like one of the varieties of monsters attached to the front. The red pillar is for harpy, red-violet is for vampire, purple for shade, blue-violet for werewolf, blue for ghost, blue-green for merpeople, green for slime, yellow-green for zombie, yellow for robot, yellow-orange for mummy, orange for golem and a red-orange for demon. The mouths of these twelve emblems hang open, small enough to fit something particular...like a vial.

Before you have time to wonder, a black wolf approaches from behind the trees. Some of you may recognize him as the wolf that's lingered around the cemetery this month, but to others he may be a stranger. As he looks at you, he woofs indignantly before he trots ahead toward the harpy, vampire, and golem pillars. The mouths of these emblems close, a sign that these vials have been found and must be returned to their rightful place. Though he cannot speak for himself, anyone in the woods will hear that same mysterious voice once again as the wolf begins to dig up nine empty vials to carry with him.

"Come what may, follow the path and never stray. Only you may draw out the power to light the pillars and drive out the darkness. Fight back."

As you look at the pillars, one of them lights up as someone in the city defeats a wayward creature. The ring inches upward, a sign of progress and an example of what you must do. With the collection of cure items on hand, you'll be able to combat anything that comes your way so long as you work together and create the right tools. Reach out to your friends and find those who have items to make yours stronger. Stun the creatures of the night, learn who you can trust, and work quickly to stop the infection from spreading even further.

IV. - TDM CHARACTERS ONLY

This may be old hat for everyone else by now, but this is very, very new to you, isn't it? Without pause, everything around you suddenly comes into clear focus. You’re not sure what you’ve missed or even what’s happening, but survival instinct kicks in the moment you set foot out of your home. With the city in a state of viral outbreak and several citizens succumbing to their disease, you'll find it hard to go very far without coming face to face with a creature of some kind. Just as this monster looms over you, ready to transform you into one of its own, a blinding white light wraps around you and you’ll find yourself in a brand new outfit. As the light fades, a magic wand materializes in your hand. With an "E" proudly embroidered in the hem of your skirt and a tiara on your head, the monsters begin to back away from you as they eye the wand nervously.

Adorning the top of the wand is a clear crystal radiating with power. As the wand meets the eye of a monster, the gem will change to the appropriate color and a powerful beam of light will begin to drive the darkness out in threads and waves. While these powerful wands seem to be the key to fully curing the outbreak, you can't work alone. It will take the combined efforts of residents with cure items from the mailbox and your magical skills to advance upon a creature and exorcise them.

As they're fought off with cure items and blinded by colorful hypnotizing light, creatures will begin to rapidly fade to their human selves. While those who are on the app will simply feel fatigued, the remaining citizens of Recollé will fall unconscious in a deep sleep. Nothing you do now can awaken them, but there's still an ample number of threats they face. It's…maybe a little suspicious to be found hovering over someone unconscious, isn't it?

A friend will help you move. But a true friend will help you move a body. Good luck, Retrospecters. You'll have to move them to safety, and fast.

BONUS. - OTA
As the days bleed into the nights and you fight to reverse the effects of infection, a few changes begin to take their toll. The corn stalks begin to dry and even rot as the month continues, the maze becoming easier to navigate toward the end of October. The scarecrows begin to back off, and the birds take a look at you and caw in panic as they fly away in the other direction. Nothing about your situation has changed, but the results begin to show.

On the 24th the corn maze begins to fall away in chunks. A winding golden path appears beneath your feet, outlining the roads of the city, and for the next week it becomes harder to walk smoothly. With each passing day, you sink into the ground inch by inch, never quite disappearing, but feeling yourself being pulled under until October 31st.

The sky lights up. A wolf howls as twelve beams of light rocket into the air and form one solid column, flooding the city with bright colors as the remaining monsters are quelled and the darkness fades away. As of this day, all monsters are reverted back to their human form. The nightmare seems to be over.

Creeping ever closer to Halloween night, you find yourself exhausted from the efforts put forth and as you glance down you notice your hands have begun to fade. Translucent and in some cases see-through, the process spreads slowly. Your body begins to fade away and transform, bursts of color appearing on your skin that light up the area around you including your semi-skeletal frame.

Weren't the monsters defeated? Why is this happening now? Asking around never hurts, but maybe a pair of gloves will help.

BONUS 2. - OTA

On the evening of Halloween, the moon changes to a soft blue and rises higher into the sky. Jack-o-lanterns and strings of light suddenly adorn every shopfront and the chill autumn air sends a breeze through the town. The first thing you think of this evening will materialize over your body becoming this year's Halloween costume. As you look around, piles of sweets, savory dishes, and drinks galore pop up on tables on the sidewalks seemingly out of thin air. Live music begins to play, and those who have fallen asleep rise again to partake.

It's...a party? It's a party. A Halloween party takes place on this evening to brighten the spirits of everyone. As everyone around you begins to mingle, you'll find that your phone beeps to notify you that the Retrospec app has entered Halloween Mode. Now decked out in cheerful Halloween colors, with userpics in a randomized (work safe) costume, Halloween Mode comes with a Trick or Treat function. When texting others over the app, users who are asked "Trick or treat?" will have the option to give a treat. If they do, a virtual candy will be gifted to the other user. If they do not, the user who asked the question will have the option to play a "trick" ranging from vandalizing someone's userpic with snap chat filters, choosing a new Halloween scheme for the other person's app, sending the other user into a round of a cutesy Halloween maze game or other light-hearted tricks only lasting up to 10 minutes. Go ahead, give it a try! Post a message and see what happens.

It's easier than thinking about how strange this whole month has been, or how it's even stranger that framed photographs of you begin to appear on some of the refreshment tables as well, surrounded by your favorite treats and objects.

Oh well. That sounds like tomorrow's problem. If there's ever a time for a celebration, today's the day.

Welcome to [community profile] recolle's October event pt 2 and our TDM! Please read these notes carefully.

-All characters who are TDMing will be begin in-game AU'd as Recollé residents. You may use any of the above prompts for ideas or make up your own depicting your Recollé AU! Prompts do not have to be set in the districts listed above. You can review our list of locations for what's available. Please note that TDM threads can be used as samples, can be kept as game canon, and can also be used for bonus points for future item regains. Share a few minor details of your AU, tag around, and have fun!

-While only current players may post top-levels using prompt three and TDM players may top-level with prompt four, all players may respond to others who post with these prompts!

-If you are TDMing this round, please indicate this by including TDM in your subject line! This will help the playerbase know who is who.

-As a reminder for current players, you may still claim multiple freebies! These include:
-One freebie for infecting (or being infected by) at least three different characters (this can be on the mod-posted log or in your own logs/inboxes.)
-One freebie for exploring with a partner or a group and finding items to begin creating protective gear to ward off the infection.
-One freebie for threading with a character that is test-driving.
All of these threads must have at least five comments from you to be eligible. To submit for your freebie memories, please link us the appropriate thread with the trigger explanation of "freebie."

-As a special note, we will also allow current players to use a thread from this event/TDM for their AC proofs! As this ties into a game-event, we are making an exception. However, your other proof(s) (at least ten comments) must come from sources outside of this log. Likewise, as this is an event log instead of just a standard TDM, you may use this log to trigger regains as normal.

-Please note: you will need a reserve to apply, and current characters must have full AC posted at the time of their reservation. This means for players reserving second characters you must link us your full October AC, and players reserving second and third characters must link us to your September and October AC!

Finally, you can visit October's AU workshop here! Any questions you have regarding this event/TDM may be directed to the mod comment here. Be sure to review the mods' question thread on the plotting post for important information as well!

With the bells? And ears? It is kind of cute.

[The outfit. She's....pretty sure he probably thinks it is the opposite of cute to be caught wearing it himself. So she should probably keep that to herself. Even if she did think the ears were kind of cute. Probably from having experienced being around him while he was infected and in puppy mode.]

Did...you want to head back home?

[Somewhere more private? Since he had tried to bolt just before and all. He probably doesn't want everyone seeing him like this.]

[personal profile] cardcaptured 2018-11-15 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Honestly, it wasn't as if he thought the outfit wasn't cute-- it just would look better on someone else that wasn't him. Ruffles and petticoats and cat ears did not suit him in the slightest, and he wasn'f crazy about the extra appendages after... well, whatever this month was.

And with that in mind, his head ducks low, his hands balling into his skirt. The outfit was one thing that was eating at him, but after everything he tried to do while he was infected... being out and about was becoming less and less appealing.]

... yeah.

Are you okay with that?

['About being around me', but that's left unsaid. Just because everything seemed mostly back to normal doesn't mean he's forgotten what happened.]
keystaff: (To fall)

[personal profile] keystaff 2018-11-16 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
I've been here a bit already. It's not like there won't be other parties.

[Or at the least, they could go home and get him changed into something else? She's not too worried either way though. Like she said, there would be other parties. And this wasn't going to be fun if he wasn't enjoying it too. If he was too embarrassed and focused on what he was wearing to have fun with everyone.]

So we can go back to your place if you want. I don't mind.

[He purses his lips as she reassures him, realizing that his other concerns were barely a blip on her radar. If she wasn't going to mention his stint as a puppy, then he wasn't about to bring it up, although the guilt over the whole ordeal was gnawing at his insides. He hadn't done anything to physically harm her, but the fact that he had been sneakily trying to infect her, to make her suffer the same virus 'for her own good'... it made him sick. He was supposed to protect her, but he wound up endangering her instead.]

Alright.

[His voice is quiet when he finally answers, his posture still tense. At that, he starts walking in the direction of his apartment, his head still low. It's a struggle to find a subject of conversation, with everything so awkward, and he was never much of a chatterbox anyway.]

This is a weird time for a party. I know it's Halloween, but...
keystaff: (Quiet)

[personal profile] keystaff 2018-11-22 08:42 am (UTC)(link)
You mean with....everything that's been happening this month? Yeah. I know what you mean.

[But that doesn't change the date. That this is when Halloween always falls. Regardless of whatever they might be going through with the app or even their lives outside of the app at the time. That was how it was with fixed holidays and dates like this. Still, this only happened once each year. Even if just themselves, they should figure something fun together to make up for things.]

What did you want to do besides the party then?
cardcaptured: <user name=tanabata> (3)

[personal profile] cardcaptured 2018-11-24 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods his head quietly, his shoulders and demeanor stiff with guilt.]

Mm.

[The silence feels suffocating for him, as he bites at his lip, wondering what else to say. Honestly, he should apologize-- even if the virus wasn't his fault, pretending he did nothing wrong was even worse. It was hard for him, to talk about the things that were bothering him, but he had to get over it if he wanted to strengthen his relationship with Sakura.

But then Sakura says that, drawing the line of conversation away from the elephant in the room, and it's enough to take his mind off of it... for the most part, anyway. He's quiet for a moment, before half-heartedly shrugs a shoulder in response.]

Stay inside, I guess. If we have school tomorrow, we shouldn't be out too late.

[Though 'stay in his room and avoid everyone he interacted with this month' was a more ideal option, but Sakura probably didn't want to hear that.]

What would you rather do?
keystaff: (Colours and promises)

[personal profile] keystaff 2018-11-25 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Um. We could have a party at my place? Get some snacks, watch something? If you want to do something quieter.

[If that was something that might appeal more to him. Given he doesn't seem keen with the crowd here and all. Being seen in that. Once home, they could change and relax to do something else. Whatever else Xiaolang might want to do. That was just one suggestion, one they didn't have to go with.]
cardcaptured: <user name=tanabata> (5)

[personal profile] cardcaptured 2018-11-25 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Your brother probably wouldn't want me over there.

[It's said quietly, as his hands try to stop the jingling of his skirt as they walked. Not that he particularly cared what Touya wanted, most of the time, but after what had happened this month... that was a bit of drama he wanted the two of them to avoid. But the fact Sakura was trying to lighten things up, trying to make things better even after all of the awkwardness and shame... he appreciated that. And even if he had a lot of Feelings about what happened... spending time with her and enjoying her company was the most important thing they could do.]

But... we could go and do that at my house, if you want. I'd have to go there to change, anyway, and we have a large TV...

[Granted, Fai's house was definitely larger than his apartment, but it didn't mean it wasn't good for hosting some get-togethers.]
keystaff: (I have died)

[personal profile] keystaff 2018-11-27 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
He never wants you around. Like that matters.

[Sakura's well used to ignoring her brother and his grudge against Xiaolang for what she can figure is for no reason whatsoever. Not that she might be aware of interactions they had without her around, or that it was just part of what it was like to have an older brother when dating. Derek had tried to explain but Sakura just didn't seem to get it.]

But sure. Just let me stop by mine on the way to get a change of clothes and we can head to yours!

[personal profile] cardcaptured 2018-11-28 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Your brother wouldn't want me around for other reasons, I mean.

[Aside from his usual weird, overprotective reasonings, that is. And even then, that did matter a little-- Xiaolang wanted to be on good terms with her family, especially since they were so dear to her, and improving relations with her brother was a step in that direction. But they were like oil and water half of the time, always chafing against one another, and this whole monster business didn't help matters in the slightest. Not that he really knew why Touya disliked him so much in the first place-- sure, Leon was a huge part of it, and Xiaolang hadn't left much of a good first impression, but he was past that now. It wasn't as if he'd ever hurt her or anything like that!

He nods a bit at her suggestion, however, the bells tinkling along with his movement, though another idea comes to mind.]

Um, you can always borrow something from my place, too, if you don't want to make the extra trip. I don't particularly mind.

[Granted, Xiaolang was bigger than she was, so not all of his clothing would fit properly, but surely his t-shirts and jackets could work?? Of course, Sakura probably would want to wear something more her style and size, but...]
keystaff: (Hold fast)

[personal profile] keystaff 2018-11-29 08:50 am (UTC)(link)
For what other reasons?

[Reasons aside from her brother just being overprotective? Since Sakura isn't even sure if Touya might remember seeing the initial meeting he had with Syaoran in their memories. So she isn't sure if that's it or if there might be more that occurred that she isn't aware of. Let alone that she isn't necessarily considering the potential risk or danger with her having been so close to him during the infection.]

Oh, well. Um, if you wouldn't mind? Then sure. If it saves us a trip in detouring to mine first.

[She didn't mind borrowing clothes, she's used to that given her friend's habit of making some and fitting her and all that. As long as she would have something to wear. She could just borrow something from him to sleep in and wear this outfit back home or something.]
cardcaptured: <user name=fleeting> | DNS (and you may be the queen)

[personal profile] cardcaptured 2018-11-29 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[He merely shakes his head in response, deciding to drop the subject for now. If Sakura wasn't putting too much thought into this whole werewolf issue, then he shouldn't be poking at it. Of course, he needed to apologize, and talk about it at some point, but...]

Never mind.

[He's quiet again as they continue to walk, the path naturally taking them closer to his apartment in the process. It was probably better they skipped the detour, anyway-- Fai would have probably laughed himself silly at the sight of Xiaolang's costume, but he wasn't about to mention that.

Speaking of outfits, though, another thought pops into his head, and he adds, a little hastily--]

Ah-- if you want wear something cuter, I'm sure Li-Na wouldn't mind lending you something, either. My stuff is all sort of plain, so...

[Or, rather, mostly preppy and casual boy's stuff, though it's still a far cry from her normal sort of fashion. Not that he doesn't think Sakura would look adorable in his clothes (very much so, in his absolutely not biased opinion), but he didn't want her to think she was stuck with that. And he was sure Li-Na would be fine with it if he asked... or, well, if she wasn't still terrified of him thanks to this month's antics. There was so much that had to get fixed in that regard.]
keystaff: (Sacred simplicity)

[personal profile] keystaff 2018-11-30 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind. I mean, as long as it mostly fits at least and covers me, that's the important thing.

[Well, and comfort. But that is probably assured in Xiaolang maybe having a size or two bigger than her, maybe. So it shouldn't be an issue. Or at least, she assumes. It's probably easier to just go straight to his place if Xiaolang is wanting to decrease the potential number of people seeing him. If she still had Fly, she would offer that for a little more privacy, but alas.]

cardcaptured: <user name=fleeting> | DNS (the time is just the time)

[personal profile] cardcaptured 2018-12-04 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[Alas, indeed. Using Fly would have been the best course of action, but unfortunately that wasn't an option for either of them at the moment. Not that Xiaolang particularly minded-- using her cards were a useful shortcut, it's true, but walking side-by-side with her, like normal kids... that was nice too. Not that there was anything particularly normal about the way they were dressed, but that was another matter entirely.

His cheeks flush at her reassurances, though, as they round the corner to his apartment building, and he can't help but glance over in her direction again.]

... okay.

I do think you have the least embarrassing outfit out of both of us, though.
keystaff: (Sometimes I just get so crazed)

[personal profile] keystaff 2018-12-06 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yours is kind of cute though. I mean, the ears and tail.

[At least. She thinks so, but that is probably because she likes animals and is now more used to living with Fai's around the house since moving in with him and Iwai. Still, she can't help but to get a little flustered at that, at him saying that and in how he glances at her, even if her own outfit is far from revealing.]

I guess I'm just not used to this -- I mean, the robes.
cardcaptured: <user name=fleeting> | DNS (Well it's a big big city)

[personal profile] cardcaptured 2018-12-08 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
[He sputters a bit at the comment, his face competing with the dress in it's level of pink, unsure of what to say. On one hand, Sakura said he was cute-- well, the outfit, anyway-- and that was always a means for a heart attack. But on the other hand... there were so many things that didn't mesh with him here, and the kitty parts were the prime examples.]

I-I-- it doesn't really suit me. I'd switch with you in an instant if I could. [And, in a bit of a mumble to himself--] I've had enough of ears and tails this month, anyway...

[But it's hard to miss Sakura's blush at his look, and for a moment, he's confused. Did she think it looked weird on her?]

What are you not used to about them? Are they too loose?

[The outfit felt fairly comfortable in his memories, and definitely easy to fight in-- but there were aspects that could be weird for anyone. Those sleeves were a hassle, after all...]
keystaff: (Keeping it on)

[personal profile] keystaff 2018-12-08 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
Your e--oh...right. I'm sorry, I should have figured that, after earlier.....

[She should have figured. Something like that probably would be something of a sore topic of sorts for Xiaolang now after that. After being a werepup. After being infected and all. Not that she gets too much chance to fluster and fret over that before he is asking about her robes. His robes, rather?]

Ah, it's just a different sort of style? I mean, I've worn yukata a few times, but not something quite like this before. The sleeves are so long....
cardcaptured: <user name=fleeting> | DNS (no you don't even know me)

[personal profile] cardcaptured 2018-12-09 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
[And now he's gone and made Sakura feel bad after making that comment, which makes him feel lower than low. Good going, self!!!]

N-No, I-- ...it's okay. I don't really mind if you think they're cute or anything. It's just...

[He purses his lips, unsure of how to go from there. Does he finally apologize? Acknowledge what had happened? But then Sakura brings up the other subject, and it's almost a relief to talk about something else, even if it is their silly outfits.]

I guess if you're used to yukata, though, it is kind of weird to get used to. The one I wore at the festival was hard to move around in...

[An idea comes to mind, however, and he quietly reaches out for her forearm, pausing before he can make a grab at it to glance at her. It's not a romantic gesture, but it's one that would probably make her life easier in that outfit.]

Um... can I?

Just....?

[Well. Complicated? Given he was infected the other month and all. Is probably all he means, right? Probably. At least that's what she assumes, anyway. But it's all over now and he was fine, cured of the infection. Not that that immediately stopped him possibly feeling some lingering guilt and unease about it, but still.

She pauses then though, when he comments about the yukata he wore to the festival earlier. She glances to his arm that reaches for hers, not really thinking twice before she takes it.]

Yes. Thanks, Xiaolang-kun.

[His intention had been to wrap the dangling edge of the sleeve around her arm, to keep it away from the ground so it wouldn't drag so much, because it did get a little obnoxious with that bell at the end. He hadn't wanted to touch her clothing without her consent, hence the asking--

But then she takes hold of his arm, and it's like his brain short-circuits for a moment, cheeks flushing pink and his mouth wordlessly trying to make a sound. In a way, it probably served the same purpose, keeping her arm higher up to reduce the droop on the sleeve, but... well. He's just not used to advertising their relationship as brazenly as this. Although them linking arms probably was less embarrassing than what he was wearing...

Swallowing hard, his arm draws hers closer to his side-- not so much that it was against his body, but not so far that there was an awkward gap between them. They were already at his building, anyway, so it didn't really matter.]

Y... yeah. It's no problem.

[He's quiet for a moment, dwelling on their previous line of conversation, wondering if now was the best time to do it. Maybe it was best to get it out of the way now instead of bringing it up during a time where they should be having fun.]

Um...

[His voice is quiet and unsure for a moment, before he continues--]

... I'm sorry. For everything that happened during the past few weeks. I put you in a lot of danger, and that's inexcusable.

E-eh? But it's not your fault.

[As usual, the app was....well, being weird again. Causing strange things to happen. But that didn't mean she blamed him for it. Not personally. But then, with this, it's easier to blame those working on the app if she had to blame someone. Though even then she hears about how hard they are working to try fix things all the time. It's....just not that simple.

She shakes her head, glancing to him in trying to reassure him, though she's not sure how much it might work. If that was how he saw it, she might not be able to reassure him, to change his mind. She's pulled a little closer when he draws her arm to him in helping support her and helping her deal with the sleeves. Not that she herself seems to think as much of this, or at least until she might notice how red he is.]

[Somehow, he knew that was how she was going to respond-- Sakura was always so kind and understanding, and he knew it wasn't like her to hold a grudge over anything. (Except when it came to her brother, of course, but he deserved it a lot of the time) But his guilt wasn't going to accept it that easily, and he shakes his head slightly.]

Even if it was something else affecting me... I'd rather take responsibility for it. I don't want to put the blame on what I did on something else and have it excuse me for whatever I did wrong.

[And it's no sooner than the words leave his mouth that he has a sense of deja vu, and... oh. Right. This was a similar conversation he had with Mio, about her own virus and actions some time ago. Strange how his experience with this gave him more insight to her feelings than swapping bodies did.

His arm tenses beneath her hold, the flush on his cheeks fading as he debates on what to say next. He could leave it at that, but... relationships thrive when those involved are candid with one another. And heaven knows he needs to work on being more open with things that were troubling him.]

... I mean. I could have gotten you sick. I was putting you at risk when I should have just stayed away. I couldn't really protect you, in the end.

Xiaolang-kun....?

[While part of her might sort of see where he was coming from, she also doesn't blame him. But that might be because it's her. With Sakura, she doesn't really hold grudges, not unless it's some petty sibling thing with Touya. But also because she is aware that he wasn't exactly himself during that either. That and she doesn't realize yet about Mio, what she'd done with Leon and all, given nobody had ever actually told her.]

It's alright. I didn't get infected, I was fine -- I am fine.

[personal profile] cardcaptured 2018-12-15 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[She's probably still not going to know about Mio, at least as far as Xiaolang's concerned. Working on being more open with her was one thing, but that was another matter entirely. The less people who knew about her actions, the better, even if he knew Sakura wouldn't judge Mio like that.

... but that wasn't the subject at hand here. It's clear Sakura was more concerned over him than troubled by what had happened, which made his heart ache something fierce. Of course it wasn't in her nature to hold onto her worries, but... he wanted to be held accountable for this, somehow.]

It's a miracle that you didn't. I was around you enough that it could have been a lot worse.

[Not that he ever got violent or threatening with her during that time, even at his least sane. But on that note...]

I also shouldn't have said that you were-- you were...

[A couple spots of color pop on his cheeks as he struggles to say the next bit, embarassed at how possessive it sounded.]

... mine.

Could have been worse. But it wasn't. And you....you weren't really yourself. And, well, I mean....

[They were dating. So in that sense he wasn't wrong? She was his girlfriend. Though it was still....kind of possessive in the context of it with him saying that to Derek. During that fight and all. Neither of them had exactly handled that well. Which is exactly why Sakura had been trying to stop them and why she knew they were not really themselves at the time.]

We're dating? So.
