AU: He's ex fighter pilot, has EXTREME loyalty to the medics of his outfit, and went searching for the kids of the medics when they were KIA; probably adopting/looking after whichever of them he could get. This is why he came to the city and "settled." He loves extreme sports, thrillseeking, music, ASMR and weird off the beat cultural heritage stuff, and is really active in fighting for the tribal rights to all things.

Because Native Americans only more recently got laws passed about the "scoop" and so he's double-timing both looking for the AU heron kids, and helping get natives back in touch with their families/heritage. Which doesn't mean like "Oh but if you're not native he'll ignore you," it means he'd befriend everyone in/going through the system to keep tabs and eyes and ears out.
