AS I UNDERSTAND IT, soldiers are given government issue phones meant for communication within the chain of command... connections in the middle east especially can be pretty spotty and soldiers in combat zones are generally not supposed to have cell phones on them for security reasons
there are some posts that have internet and computers for use, but i'm just gonna say sakichi didn't have access to those LMAO
in addition, his particular job involved a lot of time spent isolated in enemy territory, so he might've had periods of time where he just couldn't write back regularly... SORRY YACHI
